Before purchasing, know three things: (1) it is supplied in annealed (soft, formable), cold-worked (high strength), or solution-annealed (AMS 5599/5666) conditions; (2) matching filler ERNiCrMo-3 is mandatory for corrosion-matching welds; (3) price is approximately 1.5-2.5x 316L but 40-60% less than Hastelloy C-276 — and for most seawater/acetic acid service, 625 is the optimum value. Welding Inconel 625: The Filler Rule
Critical rule: Use ERNiCrMo-3 (AWS A5.14) for GTAW/GMAW or ENiCrMo-3 for SMAW. Never use 316L or 309 filler — the weld will pit in service.
