Manufacturing Process — Melting & Rolling

304 is melted in EAF (electric arc furnace) and refined by AOD (Argon Oxygen Decarburization) to precisely control carbon and nitrogen. Slabs are continuously cast, hot-rolled, then solution annealed at 1010–1120°C and rapidly water quenched to keep the fully austenitic, carbide-free structure. Coils and plates are pickled and passivated for a clean corrosion-resistant surface; bars are annealed, peeled and straightened with tight dimensional control.

  • PMI (Positive Material Identification): 100% XRF verification of Cr, Ni and Mo on every heat before dispatch.
  • UT (Ultrasonic Testing): Full-length ultrasonic examination of bar per ASTM A388/E2375 where specified.

Carbon content: 0.08% max for 304 vs 0.03% max for 304L. 304L avoids chromium-carbide precipitation (sensitization) during welding of heavy sections.
