Manufacturing Process — Melting & Rolling

316 is melted in EAF and refined by AOD with precise control of molybdenum recovery, carbon and nitrogen. Slabs are continuously cast, hot-rolled, then solution annealed at 1038–1120°C and rapidly water quenched to keep molybdenum in solid solution and maximize corrosion resistance. Coils and plates are pickled and passivated; bars are annealed, peeled and straightened with tight tolerances for machining and valve applications.
